I have an old Dell Optiplex GX1 running SuSE Linux 9.0. I want to go on the internet with it. I have a 802.11b D-Link Wireless Broadband Router Model No. Dl-614+ and I bought a Belkin wireless adapter? <--i think it's called that. I know how to network pcs running Microsoft Windows XP, but not with SuSE Linux. What do I do? Do I have to get a Linux compatible wireless adapter?

Depending on your luck, the wireless adapter you have may already be compatible. Do a google search for it with the model number, and Linux, and see what you come up with.

I tried, but I didn't get much out of it. I'll try to find a Linux driver on the Belkin website.

well WiFI and Linux is stilla bit tricky, even if it does work very well, you will have to work with the console a bit. hope your not afraid of that :p

anyway i wold take a look at Ndiswrapper http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net
most liekly your wireless adapter is supported.

It basicly uses your windows config files to let it work

they have a good documentation, wich you will not have troubles to use if you follow the right steps

GL :)

**edit

i misspelled the link sorry for that, it points to the right site now :)

Post a link to the documentation, and I'll see if I can translate it for you. :)
