As stated, I cannot fathom this working.
You say nothing of the model Sun system you are using, nor the tape drive being employed. You really need to be more specific, if you expect any realistic assistance.
As it stands though, I cannot see how this would work. Sun's typically use Centronics compatible parallel ports (db-25)
Also typically, on Sun devices, tape drives are SCSI. You can't simply use a pin converter cable and hope it works.
