Partition with Redhat 9

I'm downloading Redhat Linux 9 right now. I now i would make the /boot 50-100meg, "root" 2-3gigs and /swap double my memory. I have 256MB memory that would make the /swap 512MB. The question is what number do i put in for the "root" as 2-3 gigs? I have a 40GB hard drive. Would i use the % sign for the gigs? I hope everyone understand what i'm talking about. Thanks.

Are you wanting to use the remaining hard drive you have? or do you plan to use that for something else like windows and other operating systems? If you want it all for redhat then select the box that says something to allow you to use the remaining space you have. I cannot remember what the words are off hand.

Anyway if you only want to use 2-3 gigs for that then put like 2000 megs or 3000 megs as that would be equivilent.

I want to do a dual boot with Windows XP pro and Redhat. For that, I don't think i would use the remaining hard drive space. I do not want it all for Redhat. What would i do then?

Yeah do not check that box to fill up remaining hard drive. Just put the exact amounts in and whatever you have left over you can use for the windows partition.
