Right, currently the company I work for has a SuSE Linux 9.2 dedicated server. This was set up by a hosting company and then it was handed over to me to "run" it. I don't know overly much about linux however so it has been a learning experience.

Right ... now to the problem. We use php and php formail scripts for the contact forms on our websites. Since moving some of out sites to this server we have been getting error emails building up in the /var/mail/root file saying the following.

from@email-address.com is the email address the from address and recipient@hotmail.com is the email address that its getting sent to. This happens from our server to a great many of the email addresses it tries to send to. How can I stop this happening ?

This was fixed by changing the postfix configuration file from.

myhostname = hostname.domainname

Note: where hostname was the name of company and domain was a local network domain called colocation

to

myhostname = hostname.domainname.com

Note: where hostname is what we call our server and domain.com is our server/websites actual domain name. Because the MX records for domainname.com are set to mail servers on a different computer, hostname was put in (otherwise it would attempt to deliver any email for user@domainname.com to the local mailbox instead of relaying it to the remote mail servers).
