problem installing rpm

here is my problem? I just installed Ubuntu home edition and having a lot of problems with it.

root@xxx:/home/arten/Desktop# rpm -ivh adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
/bin/sh is needed by adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch
root@xxx:/home/arten/Desktop#

Is it connected to the net? I use FreeBSD and if it needs a dependency, it automatically FTPees to a server to download it. I was told that Linux now does the same thing. If it doesn't, then you have to download them manually.
