for some reason, when i try to go to http://www.google.com, it wont work. It says it cant connect. But, when i go to the actual IP address of google.com, it goes there. Im pretty sure its a problem with DNS. it does the same for every website or dns name i try to go to. can somebody help me?

im using red hat 9.

Look in your /etc/resolv.conf -- do you have a line such as;
nameserver <IP>
?

You need one. If you are using DHCP, it should be providing it. If you instead are using statics, you have to provide one. :)

Cheers.
