when i try and open up my e partition in knoppix, i get the following error message

mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and non was specified.

I have a lot of things i want/NEED on this partition and i will do most anything to get it all back.

What type of filesystem is your E partition? If it's NTFS you'll need some additional libraries on the system, and even then you can only read the data. Last I looked into it, there was no reliable way to write to NTFS from Linux.
