I tried to install XMMS from the repository (turns out i just needed to reload it)

but all i get is this:
"

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
xmms: Depends: libmikmod2 (>= 3.1.10) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

"

How do i fix this?

you need to edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list

i believe you can also open up the package manager & check which repositories you have as well as add new repositories via the menus, just look through them for either software sources or repositories

/* edit - in the main menus, go to System > Administration > Software Sources

livecd's are so ftw >.<

XMMS has been dropped from the main debian path. They have moved to amarok.

I believe xine is the same, as it has been replaced by something else, either totem-xine or totem-gstreamer.

/me doesn't like ubuntu very much.. broken dependencies all round some days.

the repositories you need to add are the gutsy-backports ones. beware.. I broke an ubuntu system 2 days ago trying to install the wrong multimedia packages.

issue fixed same as last dependancy issues, jsut had to add the main repository becuase it was missing.

And im afraid Janrocks XMMS has NOT been removed, its just you probobly didnt add the main source.

This one line of cose they forgot is causing a lot of problems and incorrect sterotypes about ubuntu 7.10.

I hope for their sake they fix it.

errr.. excuse me?? I run debian full time and it has been deprecated from upstream after etch. ubuntu relates to debian by always being from the "testing/experimental" repos not the "stable".. debian is dropping xmms which could have been the reason you were having version problems, but then I wouldn't expect an ubuntu user to understand the inner machinations and policy conflicts within the debian world.

Now I was trying to help and as I don't run N00buntu except as a tester for the upgrade process... but REAL debian I will just shut the f--- up, and leave the second guessing to all the suse, fedora and bsd users eh..

Welcome to the world of ONE MIDDLE FINGER HELD ERECT... ciao, and thanks for all the fish.....

Sorry.. really bad day, but.. and it is but.. I can't see much point really.. they come asking about n00buntu and then get stroppy when they don't like the fact that something is being removed upstream from the parent distro..

Anyways.. take care of yourselves. I'm outta here because I can think of much better things to do with my time than trying to help ubuntu n00bs, like finishing the videolinux modifications I have been working on since the project went to sleep mid 2006.

Thanks to everybody who has helped me out with little bits and pieces.. it's been a good 2+ years.. times change and people move on.. just wanted to say bye ;)

i dont think he was trying to get "stroppy", i think he was just trying to "help you" if you were having the same problem as he was. i'm sure he didn't mean to insult your intelligence ;P

Anarchy is right i wasnt trying to insult anyone, and when you call people "ubuntu n00bs" it just goes to show you cant get used to a branch OS, also i also run debian and gentoo although not a lot.

Funny how people think theyre OS is the mightiest against all odds lol.

Also, next time you come here please leave the PMS at home. ^_^
