I prefer machine language ;)

But seriously, just point a stick in any direction and that language is (probably) going to be a good one. The exception of course is stuff like visual basic and what not that revolve around microsoft.

Hey,

If you want to interactive with the native OS, you're probably best using any shell programming language (scripting in bash, ksh, sh, zsh, etc). If you want to write programs that just call system commands and work with that output, programming languages like C, Perl, etc all add extra overhead so that you can run system commands that they don't include support for.

In the end, as mentioned in a previous reply, it really depends on what you want to get done. Different languages are more well-suited for different purposes.

Thank so much for all of you, I just finished AA degree in Cisco networking technology and I am taking a BS degree in information security and I want to take the RHCE, at the same time I want to study a programing language to work well for me when I use Linux.
Again thank you all.

What other linux certs have you got, particularly do you have the RHCT? The reason I am asking is because I just took that test a few days ago and I just barely failed it. You can go straight to the RHCE without any others underneath it, but from what my instructor was saying last week that would be a crazy thing to do.
