I have a little problem here... I just got Ubuntu and really loved it until I went to youtube.com and listened to some music there...terrible, distorted quality. I know it's not the fault of the video on youtube because it works perfectly fine on other computers (with windows installed on it).

Any way to fix that? I had someone recommend me Linux Mint just because of this, I didn't listen to them because... well, it's Ubuntu. Should I make the switch or is there something that I can do about the sound?

Thanks.

Are you running Ubuntu on a laptop for desktop? If a desktop, do you have a PCI sound card?

Also 10.10 is a VERY new release so there are bound to be some problems for a bit.

I believe I do have a PCI Sound card... how do I check?

Also, how do I get DVDs to play? At first it told me I needed some plugins installed, so when I searched it, it told me that it didn't find any plugins.

Now I was able to find two gstreamer plugins and now when I put in a DVD disc, it just tells me that it can't play from the resource... how do I fix this?

To check for the PCI card just look at the back of your computer. If your running your audio cables from the motherboard then you dont have a PCI card. If they are coming from an expantion slot then your running some sort of PCI card.

For the DVD problem, run the following:
Code: [ Select ]
# sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
# sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
# sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
  1. # sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
  2. # sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
  3. # sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

It is plugged in at the front and I'm not sure where those jacks go to.

Another problem I have with sound is that I created another account (called it guest) and sound doesn't work there entirely...

So, all the plugins/drivers I make aren't installed for all users from the start?
