I'm on computer 3 connected to computer 1 via SSH. I instruct computer 1 to fetch a 1.3GB archive from computer 2 via scp.

I received an odd error. At 98% the ETA was showing "stalled" periodically.

Code: [ Select ]
me@remote1:/hdd2$ scp me@remote2:/home/me/hdd2/archive.tar archive.tar
me@remote2's password:
archive.tar                          100% 1353MB   2.2MB/s   10:12
scp: /home/me/hdd2/archive.tar: Input/output error
me@remote1:/hdd2$
  1. me@remote1:/hdd2$ scp me@remote2:/home/me/hdd2/archive.tar archive.tar
  2. me@remote2's password:
  3. archive.tar                          100% 1353MB   2.2MB/s   10:12
  4. scp: /home/me/hdd2/archive.tar: Input/output error
  5. me@remote1:/hdd2$

I'm not sure if it matters, but computer 2 has 1.1GB of free space left on the drive, which is less than the size of the archive at 1.3GB.
Strong with this one, the sudo is.

I'd say your free space thing is probably the issue. I've tarred and gzipped full CDs together and had several gigs worth of file transfering over with no problems.
Like Mr Spork, I also write about my interest in alcoholic beverages.

I've ended up using scp with a wildcard to transfer individual files. I hadn't realized I could use wildcards with scp until just now.
