I'm not sure if the problem is our Sonicwall, or if it's Comcast or something else, but when we had purchased new WinVista desktops they had unbelievably slow internet connections. This didn't seem to be a problem for Win7 or pc's that we downgraded to WinXP, only in Vista. After a while someone had given me a suggestion that worked perfectly, it was to run the following command:

Code: [ Select ]
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Occasionally when we have a consultant or someone from the outside bring in a Vista laptop I need to run this command or their internet connection is basically crippled.

Recently I set up a couple laptops as a network troubleshooters. One is Ubuntu 11.4 the other is Backtrack 5 which is based on Ubuntu 10.4. I had set these up at home and have been configuring and testing on my home network. Now I bring them to work and I've got the same problem that the Vista machines have. My download speed is below 1k. I'm still on the lower end of skill when it comes to linux so I'm not sure where to even start to look. Can anyone suggest a command or config to help resolve this?

the solution in case anyone else might need it:

edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file and add the following line:

Code: [ Select ]
net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=0
