ubuntu - new to linux

hey everyone!

I'm new to linux and everything about it, but i chose to use ubuntu as a first time user. I got it installed and it's running fine. I'm curious if anyone knows any easy way to find drivers for like wireless mouses or how to install codecs so it'll play some movies. Right now it won't recognize a dvd either so if anyone knows anything about ubuntu let me know if you have any shortcuts.

Their website and forum has not been very helpful so i'm asking here.
