I can't figure out yet, why my website (http://www.take-notes.com) will only resolve with the leading 'www.', unlike most websites today :/ I've setup ServerName take-notes.com and ServerAlias http://www.take-notes.com in my apache config (under virtual hosts), and that didnt do it.

Any suggestions would be great, btw this is a Gentoo system running bind9 and apache2.

In your DNS db, instead of
www IN A <IP>

Use
@ IN A <IP>
then add
www IN CNAME @

i tried that, it was technically setup that way already (except instead of '@' i used 'web', and its still a no-go.

Here is this portion of my db file:

@ IN A 24.8.75.253
irc IN CNAME @
www IN CNAME @
ftp IN CNAME @
mail IN CNAME @
pop3 IN CNAME @
imap2 IN CNAME @

Well, 'web' won't cut it.

@ should work. Are you sure you HUP'd named? Are you sure the serial number changed?
If the serial number does not change, any change sin the db will not take effect. Likewise, if you don't actually hup named somehow (either manually -- shudder --or using something like rndc) the changes will not take effect.
