I'm not sure how good the explanation is. Basically you have a whole bunch of event handler - an onmousedown and onmouseup (i think those are right) and some on click events.

the principle is to say that when the mouse button goes down on the div, the vector from the mouse pointer to the corner of the div remains constant and you move it appropriately.

It's not really that difficult, but it's a bit of a pain.
