Worked for me. Try it again. If it doesnt work the second time, use the Ozzu search feature for what you are looking for.

Well this is a stupid problem because asked before how to change the color of the scrollbar, and I got an answer which was:
Code: [ Select ]
<style type="text\css">
/* Scrollbar properties are only supported by Internet Explorer 5.5+ */
body {
  scrollbar-3dlight-color : #cc3300;
  scrollbar-base-color : #777777;
  scrollbar-shadow-color : #cc3300;
  scrollbar-arrow-color : #00bb66;
  scrollbar-darkshadow-color : #000000;
  scrollbar-face : #777777;
  scrollbar-higlight : #ffffff;
  scrollbar-track-color : #00bb66;
}
</style>
  1. <style type="text\css">
  2. /* Scrollbar properties are only supported by Internet Explorer 5.5+ */
  3. body {
  4.   scrollbar-3dlight-color : #cc3300;
  5.   scrollbar-base-color : #777777;
  6.   scrollbar-shadow-color : #cc3300;
  7.   scrollbar-arrow-color : #00bb66;
  8.   scrollbar-darkshadow-color : #000000;
  9.   scrollbar-face : #777777;
  10.   scrollbar-higlight : #ffffff;
  11.   scrollbar-track-color : #00bb66;
  12. }
  13. </style>

It was correct until I got my new computer.
On my old computer I have windows ME on it and not XP. Now on my new computer I have XP professional and well I tried to change the scrollbar but I cant. So does anyone now what to do. I thought that I had to change something in the /* and */. I removed it and there was no scrollbar changing.

Please I need help.
Thank you

What web browser are you using? The scrollbar effect only shows up in Internet Explorer.

/* and */ denote a comment. Changing anything between or removing it entirely won't make any difference.

And that my friend would be the only down side of it all.

To find out what the OZZU is using you might have to find out where the CSS file is and view that cause if this forum is being ran like my gaming forum was being done almost all the effects and look of the site are controlled by a Cascading style sheet or CSS file.

I hope no one gets upset with me posting this part but if you view source on any of the pages from the forum and you find the following line of code you will know where the CSS file is saves and you can call that up.

This will hold true for any website that you would like to look at how there doing any specific effect and are utilizing css files

<link rel="stylesheet" href="templates/smartDark/smartDark.css" type="text/css">

Well, I know where the style sheet is and what it is...And I know OZZU's version shows up (for scrollbars on IE but not other browsers), but I'm not quite following your point....nor for that matter am I really following the point of the original question.

The point basically is this...if you want the scrollbar effect, it will only show up in IE. If you are viewing in a differnent browser it won't. I'm not understanding what is so complex about this.

The scrollbar effect is not a recognized W3 standard at this point so it's pointless to use it unless you're just catering to IE users.

//Edited - added note -- I think the scollbar code comes stock with some themes for phpBB

I agree with you I was merely trying to show where you can find the info so that you can learn how to do it if you want to do it. I use it on the site for my Railroad club yea I know it only works in IE but hey its a neat little thing that adds a little eyecandy to the site if you will. That is the only reason I could see for using it . Hopefully someday it will be Adopted as a standard and all browsers will be able to utilize it.

Personally, I like it. It's a pretty slick effect. I agree and hopefully it will be adopted and improved upon. There still seems to be some inherent flaws.

I'm just simply pointing out why it can't be seen in some instances.

In the IE menu, go to Help > About Internet Explorer. The version will displayed there.

If you have XP pro, then you should have IE6 in which case that CSS code for the Scroll bar should work.

I think it may because of your doctype.

The only way I could get it to work was to use this as my doctype:

Code: [ Select ]
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

If I included the url which points to the loose.dtd, it didn't work.

Code: [ Select ]
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
  "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
  1. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
  2.   "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

I found this:
Quote:
Browser Compatibility Note:

At the moment this style attribute is only supported by » Internet Explorer 5.5+. It will not work in Netscape or other browsers or earlier versions, but it won't mess them up either. Gooood.

The properties will only work in IE6 in 'quirks mode' — that is, when the DTD is incorrect. If you're using a full DOCTYPE (HTML 4.01 | XHTML 1.0) and apply it to the body of the document, they will not be coloured, as the properties are non-standard CSS. You may have to make this sacrifice.

I caught the entire page code before you removed it earlier :wink: taking the type="text/css" attribute out of the style tag made it work, I diddn't post it cause when I put the attribute back in and saved with a different filename it still worked :scratchhead:

Now that I see jrzycrims quirks mode post I figured I'd throw that in as well :P

Forgive me for not thinking. JrzyCrm has the answer. It is because of the doctype. By using the abreviated version IE defaults to looking to it's internal doctype where the scrollbar elements are defined. If you use the www3 doctype the proper way, the scrollbar elements are not defined (or supported) and won't work.

works fine for me:

http://www.caffeinefuelled.net/richard- ... scroll.htm

I also added a meta content-type so it validates as html

As a side note, IE "quirks mode" is going to put you into browser compatibility hell unless you are lucky and/or very careful. Bear in mind that quirks mode changes how a lot of things are rendered.

this is really really werid.
rtm at the moment i went to you preview of my scroll bar and well it works thanks you so copied it and pasted it.

i think that my problem was that i wrote:
Code: [ Select ]
<style type="test\css">

and i was suppose to write
Code: [ Select ]
<style type="text/css">

the only difference was the /, in one of them i use text\css and the other text/css.

and it is true well at least for my computer. so at the moment i am hiting my head on my desk and telling my self that i am the biggest loser.

thankyou all again for helping me. next time i will be sure to try and us the right "\" and"/" thank you.

I can't tell you how many times I have done that in the past. I still do it. It's an easy mistake and your not alone in making it.

I've been conditioned over the years to use \ as I've used and still use DOS commands and write batch files and scripts. All the paths in windows and DOS use this. I had to get used to using / in urls in the beginning and I still slip from time to time. :)
