Color compatibility in web designing

Color does play an important role in web designing, and choosing the right color for the right site could sometimes attract more visitors. While some makes you feel calm and peaceful, some makes you headache and depreciate the site you're visiting. Color shows the uniqueness of the website. In order for me to create a successful site, I would need to choose the right colors for my site.

The forum I am currently creating contain colors that look too bright in my opinion.
The main colors are #00CCFF, (forgot the hex codes of others)light green, some yellowish color + a little of orange.

I want to change some of the colors, so the site would look not so bright and peaceful + feeling of secure. The color #00CCFF remain constant if possible. Also it would be even better if you can narrow it down to only 2 or 3 main colors.

So, what color do you think I should chose?

Thanx for advices ^^

Sure thing!
As you can see by your post, the 0CF looks quite bad on the grey background - you may be utilizing it in an entirely different way (on white, black, etc) and the colours it is next to can change an appearance entirely.

Here's a pretty slick online tool to help you pick "non-conflicting" colors.
http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html

Just plug in your 00CCFF and Click "Set Hex"

Here's another of the same sort of tool that I use alot: http://www.wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html

It's cool because it gives you different combinations like mono, contrast, triad, etc. You can even set it to see what the colors would look like for somebody who suffered from Atypical Monochromatism or some other vision impairment.

Well, honestly, unless you're a kid (in particular a female kid) and the site is for kids, I'm not certain anyone else is going to be all that impressed. Just looks overall rather amateurish. Just some honest feedback.

well,,,

my forum is going to be about anime(japanese cartoon), which is for kids and I do not think any adults will be going to anime site anyway. . . . . .

and thanks for being honest ^^

It's better than nobody replying

That's actually the first thing I thought ... "Oh, it's an anime site" ... so I think you have hit it perfectly on the head for your target audience ...

//btw, I'm 21 and I watch anime ... I love it ...
