Hi guys

I have been asked by a friend to set up an e-commerce web site.

Shopping cart etc... I do not want to go through the Paypal way.

I have worked a bit with PHP MySQL -I can set up and connect database.

The site should not have a heavy traffic. let's say it is unlikely that I will have 5 users processing an order in the same time.

Basically, my question is what is the best advice you could give ( I know that one learn from one's mistakes ) so... what was your mistake , what did you learn ?

I am not entirely sure where and how to start. So many different technologies involved . Security aspect etc..

Cheers

Chris

I'd start with osCommerce :-)

http://www.oscommerce.com - its pretty self explanatory if you've some experience with mysql and php.

As for not wanting to go the PayPal way, I'd certainly advise using some third party payment provider (http://www.worldpay.com maybe?) rather than taking credit card details yourself. Give the security headache to someone else instead :-)

Steve.
