This CSS code automatically puts an icon next to each link. It works great in Firefox, Opera, and Safari. It does not work in IE6.

a[href ^="http://www"] {
padding: 8px 20px 5px 0;
background: transparent url(/city-files/images/externallink.gif) no-repeat center right;
}

Any suggestions or workarounds that I haven't been able to find?

Thanks for any help,

Cam

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work for IE6... than they haven't put the support for that in IE6 then... There may be a workaround on it that I don't know... Does it work in IE7?

I don't think either IE6 or IE7 support the new CSS selectors. IE8 claims to have fixed most of the CSS issues with the past versions.

Yes, it works in IE7. I was hoping there was some sort of javascript or hack that could get it to work in 6. This sucks. Half the people using IE on my site are using IE6 or below. Why can't more people use Firefox?

You can encourage people to use Firefox, by advertising it on your site.
