Easiest Form possible..

Hey guys just want a tad of guidance.
Making an event, and facebook doesn't let you have invitee's pick a date.
So thinking of making this page for people to visit and submit which dates they can/cannot attend it if it were on that date.

I am thinking of ajax to just click on the checkmark/X to switch if they are available, they type in their name and hit submit, then I have a page to draw the results.

The php/mysql part is simple, have many implementations of it, the question is how is the best way to switch the image and the input value?
Is it worth spending the time or not achievable?
