My department has put together a nice joomla company intranet. However, upper management has made changes that gear it more towards a facebook like approach. Currently, our employee pages are simply a full page design where the user can just edit a stage and keep adding content or they can remove content, but in the end it makes a static page. I think we need a new module or even a whole new platform that will allow the employee pages to be facebook-like. That is... with a profile pick in the top right and some nav location below the pic like bio, pics. The middle of the page will just contain all the posts along with the ability to add to the top of the posts. A normal profile layout. Anyway, I would really just like some suggestions that maybe some of you here have had good luck with before I run a bunch of trial installations. It doesn't have to fit the build perfectly but I think facebook-like should be enough description. Thanks.

Really the majority of Facebook's functionality can be achieved with Drupal. It's free - open source, runs on free, - open source software (PHP and mySQL), and is the most secure and stable of all open-source CMS systems.

I would echo mindfullsilence suggestion. I used Drupal for a while and loved how simple it was to use and set up. It does exactly what you're looking for.
