Free Searches? Search Within Categories...

Hi!
Was wondering... I've got a client that needs to setup a SEARCH function on her website. She's got 3,000 pages,and she's getting overwhelmed.
Anyway, she wants to categorize her searches. Kind of like AMAZON.com does... ya know, Search within Books, or CDs, ect...
Is there a FREE product that will handle the search within categories?
Also, she's got ALL her 3000+pages in her web root directory. I want to move them and organize the site better, but she doesn't want to. Is there a search product that you can setup to categorize your searches where she could keep all her pages in the root directory?? Or do all those search functions that allow you to search by category actually just do a little search within subfolder??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
