If you're looking for something brimming with features and power built in:
phpBB (as Grinch mentioned): http://www.phpbb.com/
Simple Machines Forum (or SMF, as meman mentioned): http://www.simplemachines.org/

If you prefer something lightweight and simple (with mods available to mold it to your needs):
FlubBB (one of my personal favourites - a fork of PunBB): http://fluxbb.org/
PunBB (my other personal favourite): http://punbb.informer.com/
bbPress (from the makers of Wordpress): http://bbpress.org/
Vanilla: http://getvanilla.com/

If you want something that runs in Ruby on Rails (both also quality as "lightweight and simple"):
RForum (similar to Vanilla): http://rforum.andreas-s.net/
ElDorado (similar to PubBB/FluxBB - includes a chatroom): http://almosteffortless.com/eldorado/

If you don't want to use a database (mySQL or otherwise):
TwinHelix Forums (Pearl/CGI): http://www.twinhelix.com/cgi/forums/

EDIT: Note that all of these are scripts which you upload and run on your own server, so the forum is completely on your site and in your control (not just a hyperlink to somewhere). The forums suggest by Butwut, tomrulez, and Zians are all remotely hosted forums which means that just like with invisionfree, you'll just have a hyperlink to somewhere (in addition, the ones mentioned by Butwut and Zians both run phpBB - mentioned both here and above by Grinch - which you can put on your own site, should you get it from phpBB.com).

It was a pretty good list though.
