Post 3+ Months Ago

Hi i am pretty new to website Designing and make most of my site through dreamweaver, here is my site http://www.fan-sites.org/jlh/ as you can see you have to scroll down a lot to read stuff, and anyway i would like to make a new layout now, one were you can scroll in one part et like this site here http://www.geocities.com/kellaholic/kel-a-brationmain.html this site looks a lot neater because you only have to scroll down for the news. Anyway when i try and do this in dreamweaver, i can only add a scroll one that you cannot put links into and you can also not add images in the space either and it also only stays white, when i would like the whole site to be the same colour. I hope i am making sense cause i am new i am trying to explain myself right not sure if i am though lol.
thank you

They're doing it through use of an iframe, which is a bad idea. Here's their code:

Code: [ Select ]
<iframe src="main.html" name="main" width="431" height="279" frameborder="0" border="0" scrolling="yes" style="position: absolute; left:171; top: 408; width:431; height:279;"></iframe>

A better way is to use css and specify the overflow, height, and width--like so:

Code: [ Select ]
div.scrollbox{ width:400px; height:250px; overflow:auto;}

Then, you can type any html inside the div, like so:

Code: [ Select ]
<div class="scrollbox">

   ... html inside here ...

</div>
  1. <div class="scrollbox">
  2.    ... html inside here ...
  3. </div>

Much better, and you won't run the risk of somebody getting lost in a frame.

it's amazing what you can do by copying and pasting code:

That is GSV's scroller div code.

http://www.caffeinefuelled.net/ lesson3.php

Do not click the link. Copy/paste the whole thing and remove the space before the lesson3.php - I don't want the links followed by any bots yet.

Only look at method 1, method 2 is dumb and doesn't even work in internet explorer.

if you want to position it, change the url to lesson1.php and that should explain position:absolute. Best bet is to brush up on some basic CSS first though.

So i guess to center the scrollbox, it would be like this then..or is it?
Quote:
div.scrollbox centered{ width:400px; height:250px; overflow:auto;}

or i have to learn how to use css first..lol..currently, i have zero knowledge on it..your site seems to be decent..once its up, i'll definetely recommend my friends there if they want to learn css... :D
*off to learn css!*
