to create something like igoogle or yahoo home pages?

I am thinking about building a site for the community I live in, and I would like to make it customizable for the user (kinda like igoogle or live.com or yahoo home page). Is this super hard? Is there any where I can find a guide or at least some example code?

You have to create a huge database, in which all the users can store their settings. You'll need an advanced login system. You need the tools. It's not that hard but it's a lot of work. You can search on the internet for login systems using PHP. You'll need a MySQL database and you have to learn something about that. Oh and hosting of course, with PHP&MySQL and a lot of space.

Yes that would be very hard to do, like Fabinator said...learn PHP, MySQL and be experts at both, and then such an undertaking will not be such a challenge. But if you have not much skill past CSS, I would forget about doing it.

Or just hire a freelancer or a company to do it for you.

I said its easy, i didn't say its fast ,, 0fcurse I can help him, there is have t0 be a good salary tho, because time is money and I usually like to get paid good, even if the job is easy.

Creating a site like yahoo, igoogle is easy IF you know html,JAVAscript and database connectivity .

But these site are not designed overnight. It required lots of man hours

I am not is a huge hurry to get the site up. It is just a pet project that I have on my back burner.

Maby one of these days I will have the skills to do it.
