HTML FUll size page w/out stretching?

how does one creat a site that fills the web browser? I realize that it can be set to percentage instead of pixels but does this cause distortion, or stretching of the table?

tiled or solid colour backgrounds on table cells.

Make your table width="100%", but have background images that seamlessly tile, or stretch without warping and looking odd (like gradient bars, etc.)
