I want to mess around with phpbb but would like to install it into a /forum directory to keep it separate from my website until I am done configuring it and whatnot. However I keep running into this wall I don't understand because I am a beginner who knows only html. I have the "wall" quoted below. Thanks to all who help.

Quote:

template->_tpl_load_file(): File ../adm/style/install_main.html does not exist or is empty

Did you install it in your root directory first, and then tried to move it to the forum directory? If so, my suggestion would be to start over and create the directory called forum, and put all of the files there from the phpBB download. Then goto that area on your website and run the install from there. That would probably be the simplest way.

I installed it directly to the /forum directory not sure what's wrong.

edit: Gave up. Installing in new subdomain. This hosting service is the problem but since I'm just messing around I'm not that concerned. Would like to learn how to install it in a directory other than root for future reference. Any good tutorials you could link me to? Please and thank you.

Typically its fairly simple. You just upload to the directory and then run the installation program. Not exactly sure what the problem is, it is possible it is your web host.

The backtrace you provided above is kind of strange btw, unless you had edited it?

The backtrace can be seen here http://obrienvideo.t15.org/forum/install/index.php I did no editing nor did I alter it in any way.

Also It redirects me automatically to /forum/install/index.php

can show you an expanded list of files and their directories if need be I don't have anything private stored in any of this.
