hey guys, so right now i have a website that i am hoping to redesign. right now it is basically a bunch of misplaced tables, which really does not look at all professional. looking at other websites, i see that they have really simple backgrounds like this one with the menu bar at the top and stuff, so how do you do something like that? should i just make a jpeg background and strategically place all my text and tables around it? and is that the way professional websites do it? thanks

Most jpeg/gif backgrounds are a simple, small picture that can be set to repeat horizontally or vertically to give the desired look while keeping bandwidth to a minimum. Some also use a solid background colour with one larger image somewhere on the site.
