Hi all, i am about to purchase domain names for a "rate my" site, it will be similar to http://www.ratemyteacher.com.
Does anyone know of the legal implementations of setting up such a site?

I will be buying these domain names from the original purchaser, how do we go about transferring ownership?

Cheers all Durb. :D

Will the owner of the website submit his/her own site for a "rating" or will anyone rate any site?

The website will be for customers to rate the service they receive from different service providers.
eg.
Cost of service ****
Friendly service **
Recommended *

5 stars = Good
1 star = Bad
Customers will also be able to leave comments like;
This person was always on time, friendly, well priced and i would recommend them to anyone.

Sorry cant give too much away just yet, not yet bought the domains.

I can see that in some countries it could be a problem, but I think most countries have "free speech" anyway. And anyway it's an opinion, I don't think you can sue anyone for having an opinion ... But then again, that's just my opinion ...

If the opinion is slanderous towards the company/person than that would be grounds for a lawsuit. If you want to avoid and possible liabilities just dont allow for the comments.

If your concerned, I'd post something about not being liable for user submitted comments in your terms. In regards to "rate my" sites, I don't think it should be a problem. I'm in the process of developing, http://ratemyfresh.com, and there hasn't been any legal issues.
