Here's how I'm thinking it would work. A page would have the <title/> element, which includes the default author provided title for the page. Then, there could be multiple
Code: [ Select ]
<meta name="title-alias"/>

elements with alternate titles for the page.

I know I can't be the only person who has ever read a title and thought, if that title would have said X I would have found it faster.

If websites had moderated facilities which work similar to comment sections in blogs or news articles where visitors could submit what they think the title of the page should be, it would make the element even more useful. Search engines could treat these alternate titles with the same weight as the regular <title> element on trusted sites.

I wonder how long it will be until google implements something like that right in the search results page. Seems like it would be less useful if left up the to the site owner or users, however if a "suggest title" link existed right in the search results even sites with very low traffic would benefit from that type of solution.
