Hello,

I have this website www dot tamarawobben dot nl
And for years I tried to make it work like this.

When a user chooses a year and month , he will see all the articles on that month. But because some months have a lot of articles I paginate them.

But because some articles are very big and some articles are very small I decided on every month and page how many articles are on that page.

I tried to use several cms like wordpress , textpattern and now Symphony cms.
But it's Always very difficult to make this work.

Because of my hsoting provider I have to stick with PHP.
Second problem is that Im not a programmer so to programm myself a custom solution is not a solution.

Also I do not like the idea of using read more links.

Does anyone have a idea how to make this work so I can manage the site easily ?

Regards,

First off welcome to OZZU roelof.

Php is no issue but from what you are asking is you will need a database to store the data. If your host does not support a database then you will not be able to make this work the most efficient. UNLESS you use static pages then you wont need php even for that matter. Majority of CMS sites are database oriented.

Hello,

I have a 5 databases which I can use.
The biggest problem is how to paginate pages with some big and some small articles. See for a example at my site 2005 - september compared with 2005 - februari.

I asked if someone has a other idea how to make my site working
So some big articles and some small articles based on a montly archive.

Roelof

Edit 1 : Or rephrase it otherwise: How can I best make a journal of the life of my daugther on a year/montly basis with sometimes big and sometimes small articles.

What you're looking for is a blog. Wordpress comes to mind.

Also, if you are doing this yourself, when you list the articles, big or small, on the page where you list them, have the articles as a preview... like show the first 500 characters of the article if possible... and if the user wants to read that article, the user would click on the title of the article which would send the user to the page dedicated to that article (and possibly comments to that article if you have that feature).

Oke,

That can be a solution but I wonder if there is another way to solve this. I do not like that my blog looks like all other blogs.

Then you make a theme, if you want something unique then get a custom template made for you. Then you can make it look like a duck splashing in water because it is your template lol
