Anyone have any idea about the number of records MySQL can hold? I want to use MySQL for an email directory on the web but I'm not sure how many records MySQL is capable of handling. I have around 20 thousands or so records.

Any suggestion is appreciated!

Well, I setup a database for a client that has 3 tables...

One of these tables holds about 18,000 records (customers), the other holds about 35,000 records (orders) and the other is only about 150 records (products).

It's been running good for the past 6 months with zero problems.

Thank you. Sounds like I might have some hope then.

Scalability and Limits

Handles large databases. We use MySQL Server with databases that contain 50 million records. We also know of users that use MySQL Server with 60,000 tables and about 5,000,000,000 rows.

Up to 32 indexes per table are allowed. Each index may consist of 1 to 16 columns or parts of columns. The maximum index width is 500 bytes (this may be changed when compiling MySQL Server). An index may use a prefix of a CHAR or VARCHAR column.
