Why doesn't the following CSS validate?

Code: [ Select ]
    filter:alpha(opacity=85);
    -moz-opacity:.85;
    opacity:.85;
  1.     filter:alpha(opacity=85);
  2.     -moz-opacity:.85;
  3.     opacity:.85;

so... is there a valid script for that?

I removed the middle line (-moz-opacity:.85;) so That invalidacy is gone.. but the other two are still invalid... :scratchhead:

the filter:blah is IE's proprietary version. The opacity, I believe, is CSS3. Sorry, I didn't notice the other two. The "-moz" kind of jumped out at me.

If the following code is CSS3... why is it invalid than?

Code: [ Select ]
opacity:.85;

I think W3's CSS validator only validates CSS and CSS2, right?

Hehehe.

Actually, I do believe the validator only checks against CSS1 and CSS2/2.1.

I'll drink another Corona on your behalf. But no LIME! I hate that. :)

You could always use the newer technique for transparency, where you create a semitransparent 1px by 1px png and then set it to repeat in your div.

The only problem is that it won't work in IE6, since IE6 doesn't support png transparency, so it'll just show up as solid gray there.

I'm fine without transparencies... thanks though.

just out of curiosity - does it matter whether it's PNG 8 or 24? cuz that sounds like a really neat technique....... Also will it render transparent in Opera? the filter/opacity thing doesn't work in Opera.....

I think PNG 8 could do it but 24 would probably be better... I'm not sure about that but I AM sure that in Opera it should work if Opera allows images which I'm sure it does :lol:
