I've got a phpbb forum and today I was looking at the CSS aspect of it. I have heard that taking the css out of the header and moving it to an external file would save bandwidth. Before I did this, my pages were gzipped (level 9) and my index page had a filesize of 8KB (according to mozilla firebird's Page Info). After using this code:
Code: [ Select ]
<link rel="stylesheet" href="templates/subSilver/subSilver.css" type="text/css">

and the page still being gzipped, it is now stating that the page is around 30KB.

Is this accurate, and is it better to use the phpbb css as an external file or keep it in the header.tpl file.

BTW, I see that this board uses an external CSS format.
