please can someone explain to me how a mirror site works ... everywhere on google i find what it is, but I want to know how it works because this is my situation: I am here in South-Africa and we have a local website (hosted in SA), now people from Australia want to download our software from our site but they keep on getting issues ... So my boss suggested we make a mirror site, but what does that entail? do I now have to have a server/host in Australia or something like that?

Well, the whole point of using mirror in your situation would be to provide Australian users with a faster download, so it would make sense to have the mirror server located in or as close as possible to Australia.

There are ways to have the mirror site automatically updated every time you update your local server, but I have no experience in doing this myself. Here are two applications I found that you might want to look into once you get a mirror server set up.

Couldn't you also have another site host your mirror say a business partner or an affiliate of your company? You don't necessarily have to own the server. You just need someone willing to host the mirror.

Yeah that's basically it, I think my host has servers in Australia aswell, and I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for that ... (My company's paying) ... lol

Never forget, if the company goes broke, so do you.

Nut let's be honest ... how much does hosting cost ... ? Not enough to just make a company go broke ...

Yeah, but a habbit of saying "the company is paying for it" like it's free money, will. ;)
