Hi! I'm having a rather odd problem...

I've got a page layout with nested tables and spacer gifs. All the HTML checks out fine. But it's odd... Sometimes when I load that page, I get the big red "x" like the spacer.gif image cannot be found!!!

Not sure what to do...this problem is very sporadic. I KNOW the spacer.gif image is there... It works MOST of the time. I've tried preloading the spacer.gif, but no luck... Any suggestions??

Oh...I'm using IE 6.0.

Things to check:

1. correct HTML and paths. But, you knew that.

2. If you're being hosted on a an Apache server, check your case sensitivity.

3. General hosting server and bandwidth issues. But, if that was the problem, you'd be seeing this with other graphics too.

It sounds like the bug in IE 6 Service Pack 1. There is a prior post on this:

Thanks for the info! I did some more searching on that IE bug...I read somewhere that IE 6.0 has a problem with the little spacer gifs - if used alot on the page in different dimensions, it gets confused!!

So anyway, I added another spacer.gif and called it spacer2.gif. Made it 1x1 pixel transparent. I replaced it where I kept having the problems with the big red x showing up...

Anyway...it works like a charm!! I've tested and tested, and have not had that problem anymore.

Hmmmm....I'm getting ready to upgrade my development pc to XP in a few weeks... Do ya think I need to keep a Win2000 box around for this kind of testing?? Or just not use those pesky spacer gifs anymore??

Spacers are pretty nifty, but you can use less of them by using CSS to position things. CSS is so lovely...

See, now Micro$oft tried that pulling one in front of a federal court, and it didn't swing with them either! ;)
