If you have Quicktime and haven't done your updates lately, the most recent update includes Safari web browser for Windows. First time I've ever seen it and always wanted to be able to check web pages in it. Very nice.

Now the question is, do the Windows & Mac versions of Safari render the same ?

I've had it installed for a while now. Glad to have it to check how it renders. Personally, I find the Windows version to be quite clunky.

It renders pretty close, from going between my osx86 and xp. Can't do side by side yet.

As far as speed claims:
It is rendering faster than firefox but do have webdev toolbar, serverspy, and foxmarks + ifox theme installed.

Typography:
Also oddly enough it bolds the text like IE7 but even stronger, also it goes 1 font size smaller in rendering than firefox, but not as much as IE. (Firefox capping at 10, Safari 9, IE will go down further)

Please, PLEASE tell me this is optional and not a required part of the update.

I'm a Mac and a Windows user, but I'm beginning to find Apple's software push into the Windows platform a bit annoying.

it is optional, it wasn't in the update.

One thing I also didn't mention, was the difference of the h4 spacing.
IE and FF are pretty close, but will have to find out whats up with the safari spacing.

*lol. Even Apple can't make a product for Windows without vulnerability issues.

http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/08/03/27/129236.shtml

Quote:
"The new Safari 3.1 for Windows has been hit with two 'highly critical'(as rated by Secunia) vulnerabilities that can result in execution of arbitrary code. The first is due to an improper handling of the buffer for long filenames of files being downloaded, and the second can result in successful spoofing of websites and phishing. This comes close on the heels of criticism of Apple for offering Safari as a update for approximately 500 million users of iTunes on Windows by default, and reports of crashes. There are currently no patches or workarounds available except the advice to stay clear of 'untrusted' sites."

Actually i was wondering what software provided this as part of the update. I was sitting at my computer and saw it downloading and i couldn't figure out why i was downloading Safari. Needless to say other than the font bolding that dyfrin mentioned i can't fault it. It seems to run relatively fast here and (not that this is a biggy) when closing down tabs i find it's a heck of a lot quicker than in Firefox or IE.

I find it quite funny Apple violated it's own TOS by including this in the Apple Software Update :P
