I have a strange situation that I hope someone can help me with.

I have two hosting accounts.
On one of the accounts I had two websites.
I was not happy with this account so I decided to cancel it.

Before I cancelled, I had setup subdomains on my other accounts and transfered all the folders there.
I then cancelled my domain names and hosting account.

On my existing account now, I started to modify URL links so that the subdomains now worked has they did on previous cancelled hosting account.

This is where things get strange.
I have a couple of links that go to download a product.
When I click on these links, it goes to my cancelled domain name and says account is cancelled. The link does not include my cancelled domain name at all.

If I copy the links and put them directly into a browser then they work fine.
If I click the link within a web page then I get sent to suspended account.

Why is this happening. Did I copy something from the other cancelled website that is causing this.

I cleared browser caches, history etc, but this did not help.
It seems to occur for links that are meant to download a product. All other URL links work OK

Would appreciate some help on this one

Thanks

It is hard to say without being able to duplicate this myself, but my first guess would be that at one time were you using both websites together? and maybe internally redirecting certain links to use the other website? Links like that could be rewritten on the fly with .htaccess for instance even if they are going to your same domain and not your cancelled domain.

I have never used both websites together.

I removed all the .htaccess files but still got problem.

I even moved the folder containing the downloades from my subdomain to the root of my new hosting and still got same problem.

I even tried renaming web pages and this did not help.

This is really baffling

Did you fix the problem?

Did you clear your dns cache?

start > run > cmd > ipconfig /cleardns

I have this problem where if I loose internet connection, my router redirects me to the router diagnostics page no matter what URL I type (usually happens to google.com since that is my home page).

After I regain internet connection all of the web pages work like they should, except for the ones that the router redirected me from to the router diagnostics page.

All of that clears up after I clear my DNS cache... don't know if that would help you at all but I think it's worth a try...

I decided to go back and check the product directory again.
I finally noticed that they had an .htaccess file from the old hosting company which was redirecting to them as Bigwebmaster suspected.

Once I removed the .htaccess everything started to work fine.

Thanks for your response
I will also keep this in mind just in case.
