My site is at http://www.softladwallpaper.com
Using Site Meter however I've been able to establish that rather than visitors being forwarded from search engines to the home or 'front' page (http://www.softladwallpaper.com) , they are sent to http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet. ... lpaper.htm instead. :(
Any constructive advice as to how to get visitors to the correct page would be welcome. Cheers.

That is one reason I tend to avoid making site with frames anymore, as search engines will link right to the frames since that is where you keywords most likely are. What you might do is simply put in some javascript which will detect if they are loading the frame only. If that happens it would simply redirect them to the main page. To do that simply put in some JavaScript like the following on the individual frame pages for which you do not want people having direct access to:

Code: [ Select ]
<Script Language="JavaScript">
<!--
if (top == self) self.location.href = "index.html";
// -->
</Script>
  1. <Script Language="JavaScript">
  2. <!--
  3. if (top == self) self.location.href = "index.html";
  4. // -->
  5. </Script>

Code: [ Select ]
if (top != self) top.location.href = "http://www.website.com/";

self.moveTo(0,0)
self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight)
  1. if (top != self) top.location.href = "http://www.website.com/";
  2. self.moveTo(0,0)
  3. self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight)

this one is a good one too along the same line.. except it makes it full screen as well... just add it in...

Many thanks for all the prompt replies particularly Bigwebmaster and Gadget Guru - big thanks. :D
It appears that knowledge-wise and for methods of working, I share a great deal in common with UNFLUX - if something looks good copy and paste it then get it to work! :lol:

Re the problem;
I'll have to give it time. :?
To give you an idea of how bad the referral situation is, here are the hits for my sites entry page according to Site Meter;

77 http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet. ... lpaper.htm
8 unknown
5 http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet.co.uk/music.htm
4 http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet.co.uk/home.htm
4 http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet.co.uk/model.htm
1 http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet.co.uk/mixed.htm
1 http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet. ... ts_new.htm

Not good. In fact very, very bad. :( A good 90% or so of those hits are referrals from Google which is directing peolple to http://www.softladwallpaper.btinternet. ... lpaper.htm. Nobody appears to be getting shown the 'front door' as it were. All the bad things I've heard about frames appear to be true in this regard.

Hopefully I've applied the javascript Bigwebmaster posted above correctly on my 'home.htm' page which replaces the previous confusingly named 'softlad_wallpaper.htm' and the 'Whats New' section has been axed altogether. What I intend to do now is monitor the entry pages for my site via Site Meter and see if things improve.

'Time will tell' as they say...........

well, you actually have to have that code on every single page except
the frames page itself. Otherwise it doesn't know to load the script to
redirect back to the front. ;)

Now that was some gap between replies! :oops: Sorry all, eBay has been taking up a lot of my site maintainance time lately as I've been selling CDs on there using TurboLister (guaranteed software 'updates' every two days! :roll: ).
Just got 'round to tackling the frames issue by simply binning the frames on all of my pages bar the openong 'index' page. Now it stays as I would like it to when clicking into the 'home' page from the opening 'index' page but from there on in pages revert to using the '.btinternet.co.uk/mixed.html' suffix instead of the required '.com' for every page.
Determined to crack it though - I'm so close I can smell it (or is that my feet?!). :wink:
