Hey everyone, it's been a while since doing web design and I used to frequent these forums a lot not so long ago. But I'm back in the thick of things now and have just semi-finished a website for my brother's cafe/catering company in Chicago. It's essentially 2 different sites and basically the cafe (black) section of the site is still a work in progress but please- any comments on either or both sections of the site would be great, thanks!

I like the minimalist approach to the sites, but there are some errors that are affecting your design.

Considering that the yin yang emblem is the only thing on the front door, it should not generate any scroll bars, but you have a vertical bar...use CSS or valid HTML to center that logo....especially since the logo is just 559px by 554px

You also have some missing images here:

See screen cap:

Also, the image named "menuspage.jpg" causes a horizontal scroll bar on a 1024x768 screen, what screen resolution did you code for?

There are also some coding errors that need to be addressed on your front door:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bon-soiree.com%2F

As well as 27 errors on your index2.html

I DO like the aesthetics of the site, though...you just need to get the code down.

Good luck.

WOW... The intro page looks great. but then .. the rest of the website has a totaly different color scheme, not good if I must say.

Then, you have different fonts in similar paragraphs in your pages. Not good again. Some of your style images are missing, or the style is not properly created( or this might be just a firefox problem ).

You should change the color tones to something that looks more like the intro page.

I like your design, the only problem I have is that your site has been created for a 1024 x 768 screen resolution, and I'm using 800 x 600, so I have to use the horizontal scroll bar to see the whole page. Too annoying!

Get rid of the whitespace above the yin-yang symbol to keep everything above the fold and remove the need to scroll. Fix the side scrolling issue too. Otherwise, great looking site.

Nicely done; very upscale. There are however a few areas that need attention:

- the ying/yang logo needs work, i.e., glow around image lacks complete symmetry, white space on the upper portion between the glow and the image needs to be removed.

- location page has no (or apparent) navigation

- font on menus seem a bit blurred (try reversing the font color and backgrount color)

When you get a chance, would you please critique my site:

Definitely an interesting design.

Perhaps you should add some rollover buttons for the navigation though.

Your idea is good, but the site is very poorly laid out. The text is all over the place. My eyes don't know what to focus on first. Nothing seems to be lined up. Uneccessary links to pages you already have buttons for. Your partner button should be in your nav bar. You should not have the address and phone number on the same line as the website copyright. Are the address and phone number not important to the relevance of the site? The color selection on the black side is hard on the eyes, especially the red home button that does not work. If I were grading this, you would not pass. :(
