I have built a little site for my IT consulting side business. I am a novice and I think it is a nice little site, but it is missing something. Your comments are very appreciated. Thanks.

I'd set a maximum width if I were you. There's not much content there, so on a large screen it really spreads out sideways a bit too much.

Also you could really do with some more info on your homepage. It shouldn't just be a landing page for your site, it's your main advertising space to sell what you do quickly to visitors to your site. You should have as much info as possible in as short and concise way as possible. Maybe some bullet points listing what you do?

You should also check your validation errors:

It's getting there - but what's the purpose of the landing page just having a logo to click to go to the next page? For me that's just an extra click I shouldn't need to do - why not just start on the about us page? What I said before was that you had little info on your homepage - now you've got none!

It's also not gonna do you any favours with search engines like that...

Unfortunately, as sammahoney pointed out the frontpage should tell me at least something about your website. The logo colors match up nicely with the background color, but beyond that the frontpage doesn’t do much.

Clicking on the Services tab helped identify another area I would change. The http://www.covteck.com/MPj04331950000%5B1%5D.jpg image comes in at a painful 371KB, always use a thumbnail image in a case like this. The way it is currently setup your clients are actually downloading a full sized image that’s about 8 inches by 8 inches. This can be easily fixed with most software editors.

Update the About Us section to let your clients know exactly what geographic area you serve, do you offer PC construction, troubleshooting and what type of consulting work you do. Your site will need quite a bit of work, but if you continue to learn from sites like this forum, it will be vastly improved in just a short time. Good Luck!

Ok, round three, and probably still counting... I changed the home page and the picture size on the pages, forgot to change those in the beginning. Also, please look at the Contact Us page as well, are forms liked or disliked? Should it be just a contact number and email addresses? Thaks for the help.

You should be adding padding to your main content. Just add cellpadding="5" or something similar to the cell ... I'd suggest re-designing using CSS as well, it makes for much less code and can have a positive impact on page load times, and also any changes you make are global (with an external style sheet), and occur to all pages that refers to the style sheet.

You should be adding another colour or two, too. Your design as it is looks way too simple and beginner-ish. If you're trying to sell products and/or services you should have a well-executed and professional design, ESPECIALLY if your products and/or services have some connection to technology (even if you have nothing to do with web design).

Why don't you offer antivirus protection to businesses? They get viruses too.
