Hi all,
I have yet another site for review.

http://www.darkmusicart.com

I've just started my own business in alternative website design and digital art. We cater for all the goths, punks, metallers and other alternative people.

If you review us, please give any kind of feedback you like. I'm particularly interested in whether you can understand the navigation and how to purchase items.

Thanks in advance,
Missy xx

Nice splash page, the white interference is a great touch. I like the flame, but for me I still saw the cursor - would it look better without?
Is that a hit counter on the bottom left? It needs to go.

//EDIT: I'll write more later if this gets bumped to remind me.

The hit counter does not make the site look professional (at least it doesn't for me), and I think that you need to take it off.

Also, keep the pages from site to site consistent. Don't change the layout. Once I even wondered if I went to a different site.

On one of your pages the drop-down menu is transparent making it hard to read some of the text. You'd need to fix that if you want to attract visitors to different pages of your site.

Thanks for the comments, keep em coming!
I'm going to take the hit counter off, as i agree about that.
We have a different look for each section to show the different styles we can do. As most alternative or metal bands tend to think only in black, with lots of skulls and fire etc...
The look is consistent in the sections though. All digital art is blue and white with the same header, all website design is the same colour, same header etc.
We have also kept the font the same and the menus have the same layout.

Could you understand the navigaton? And how to purchase items?

Looking forward to more!

There is a way to remove the IE7 "click to activate and use this control" thing ... I'll find it and post it here now ...

There are 41 errors in your coding ... click here to see them ...

One little trick to work around the "Click to Activate and Use This Control" problem
(due to a plugin issue with microsoft)

Your embed code is:

Code:

Code: [ Select ]
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"
codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/s wflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
id="mars" align="middle" height="130" width="130">
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain">
<param name="movie" value="mars.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff">
<embed src="mars.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"
name="mars" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
align="center" height="130" width="130">
</object>
  1. <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"

  11. pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
  12. align="center" height="130" width="130">
  13. </object>

If you ceate a myprintln.js file that simply says:

Code: [ Select ]
// myprintln.js
function myprintln(s) { document.writeln(s); }
  1. // myprintln.js
  2. function myprintln(s) { document.writeln(s); }

and put this in the head of your file:

Code: [ Select ]
...yada yada yada...

 <script src="myprintln.js"></script>
 </head>
  1. ...yada yada yada...
  2.  <script src="myprintln.js"></script>
  3.  </head>

...and wrap your script like this:

Code: [ Select ]
<script>
myprintln('<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"');
myprintln('codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/c abs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"');
myprintln('id="mars" align="middle" height="130" width="130">');
myprintln('<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain">');
myprintln('<param name="movie" value="mars.swf">');
myprintln('<param name="quality" value="high">');
myprintln('<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff">');
myprintln('<embed src="mars.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"');
myprintln('name="mars" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"');
myprintln('type="application/x-shockwave-flash"');
myprintln('pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"' );
myprintln('align="center" height="130" width="130">');
myprintln('</object>');
</script>
  1. <script>
  2. myprintln('<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"');
  3. myprintln('codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/c abs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"');
  4. myprintln('id="mars" align="middle" height="130" width="130">');
  5. myprintln('<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain">');
  6. myprintln('<param name="movie" value="mars.swf">');
  7. myprintln('<param name="quality" value="high">');
  8. myprintln('<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff">');
  9. myprintln('<embed src="mars.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"');
  10. myprintln('name="mars" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"');
  11. myprintln('type="application/x-shockwave-flash"');
  12. myprintln('pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"' );
  13. myprintln('align="center" height="130" width="130">');
  14. myprintln('</object>');
  15. </script>
...it will work around that problem

oooh, thank you for the code! Most useful. I shall fix all that tomorrow - the click to activate thing drives me insane!

Also thanks for the errors, I've been trying to fix as I go, but most of the ones that are left are in code supplied by 1and1, to do with metatags, so we didn't really want to mess with it.
Why can't dreamweaver have an auto-correct function? :wink:

what did you think of the site?

First thing is that I would expect to gain entry from the welcome page the moment I hit any part of the image ..it didn’t but just gave me the flame thing…
Then I would also expect that the text – album etc on the main welcome page are navigatable …they are not …so there are many non conventional things that that could cost you a visitor as after additional clicks they my tend to move on to other sites… Also the links within the sites are of similar tone to the background which makes the site uniform but then I would suggest red ….without any underline.

NO! I hate indie rock!, and by the way this isn't the right place to post that question. For that you'll have to find a Music forum, or PM someone (And it better not be me) ...

I love the look of your website and the flash is very impressive the only thing i would criticise you on is the link colours they are blending in with the background especially the first top row of links on your homepage.
My advice would be to change the link colours and i think you have one great website there.

Hope this helps.
