http://conorific.com/dream/

This webzine just started up. Don't comment about the current layout. I know it's awful and probably incompatible, too.

I would really like to hear suggestions on what sort of layout I should use for this site. I need something more simple, that won't take away from the content. If you could review the content (you are more than welcome to contribute as well,) and provide feedback on what you think would work, it would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

Top image is pretty http://conorific.com/dream/top.png but try a JPEG and compress it to half its size!

Now try navigating those pages in 800x600. The big header just gets in the way. You only need that image as your cool intro page.

Take the W3C off or actually make your page valid http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http% ... Findex.php

You need to understand the way table work better as this page is just so messy http://conorific.com/dream/staff.php

I know, there are thousands of things wrong with that layout. I agree, tables are the best and this is the first layout I've done in a while that doesn't have them.

So do you think that a smaller, tables-based layout would work better?

I disagree. Try to come up with a unique design without tables. Avoid tables at all costs. They come in handy for complex designs, but your website looks like it'd do fine without. Also, you should consider putting all of your css code into an external file and linking each page to it to enable the full power of CSS. You've done a good job so far. I like what I see. You've got some of your CSS in a separate file and other bits embedded in the page. I'd avoid that if possible. Makes your actual html a bit cleaner (ie easier to update).

The only faults so far I'd say are the links. A bit hard on the eyes with a 1024x768 browser. Either that or I'm getting old, but I'm only 25 so I doubt it.

But what does the name, "Dream in Japanese" have to do with your site? I must have missed something. I'm in Japan; that's why I ask.

Thank you, I'll remember all that in the next layout.

I designed the site, it's hosted on my server and I contribute, but I really don't know about the inner workings of the webzine, and I don't know what's up with the name. Feel free to use the contact form and ask, though.

I don't feel like I need to point out that the image at the top is 253k.

Did I?

;)
