Hello.

Please review my friend's site.

He gets hardly any visitors to his site
and keeps adding more and more
services in a bid to attract new
visitors, but to no avail.

http://www.ebidder.us/
http://www.ebidder.us/auction/
http://www.ebidder.us/advice/
http://www.ebidder.us/car/

http://www.ebidder.us/mall/
http://www.ebidder.us/music/

I don't expect you to review them all,
they are basically indervidual sites.
But if you have any ideas about
how he could gain more visitors, it
would be very welcome.

THANKS

I'm with 613flavah on this one. The designs themselves (of the 3 or 4 that I checked) are really good, so if he's not getting the visitors he's looking for, its probably more of an SEO thing than a design problem. He may want to partner up with other sites and exchange traffic. There's tons of work put into the whole domain, it would be a shame if it didnt all go to good use.

There is no need to spend money when you can get the visits FREE by working hard at improving your SEO. Especially when it's a new company that doesn't have the revenu to spend.

Indeed, I have been telling him to read up about SEO.

His site has a pagerank 0, which I know doesn't mean anything any more after google admitting that the pagerank my toolbar tells me is bassically a joke, but it is still a bad sign.

Well, first thing I think of when this page loads is "Oh look, this site must've closed down and some search site took it over. Back button." What I am talking about is the fact that the categories on the first 2 links at least make the site look like a spam site.

On http://www.ebidder.us/car/ the top half is great! Too bad the mid-section and footer look bad. On that same page the white BG in the middle looks too plain.

This page looks horrible in FF: http://www.ebidder.us/auction/ There are broken images, the layout is broken....it is a mess.

Umm, the whole thing is flash so no search engines can even pick it up, not to mention the fact that the site doesn't look finished because it is so dead and there is no explanation as to what it is.

Again here there is no content. How does he expect to have return visitors when there is nothing for them to view? http://www.ebidder.us/event/

Same with .../exchange and most of the other pages.

Why doesn't he just make all of the pages link together so search engines pick them up?

He should try to explain what the site does and why the visitor should want to join at the top of the content.

This are definitely SEO issues with the sites.

- This is a network of related sites so why not add a consistent navigation section at the footer of all the sites that contains links to all of the other sites in the network. That way even if he just markets http://www.ebidder.us then the search engines will be able to find all of the other sites in the network as a result.

- The sites are very graphics-heavy and one thing that search engines do not like is hyperlinked-images without a descriptive text attached to them.

- The directory listings and search results look terrible, a consistent grey colour on all entries, not good. Table cells with entry names should at least have a different background colour to the descriptions

- In my opinion the sites should be scalable to the full width of the screen. Would look better i think.

I don't know about everybody else but I think graphic-heavy sites are not the way to go anymore. That's not to say that the can't look good but the majority out there are so unimpressive.
