hello everyone,

thought it might be a good idea to get some valuable feedback from your community.

So here it goes.

We've been developing File Search Engine - http://www.search4file.com Mainly it is aimed to perform search on different file hosting sites, such as Rapidshare, 3fileupload, perlhosting and others most commonly known.

Recently we've added a Youtube search also http://www.video.search4file.com where you can search for any kind of videos and download them directly to your PC.

Also we're cracking on with improving things to make the search perfect. Many more features are planned for the forthcoming future.

So, have a try - http://www.search4file.com

Any kind of feedback is always welcomed.
Enjoy!
Martin.

I like the idea. Especially the youtube feature. The site and search looks good, but I think the ads really take away from the site.

I know you're trying to monetize it, but the banner ad on the front page really put me off. I would suggest having a clean, ad free homepage.

I'm not sure about the intellitext ads. I could see them working on the search results, if they were toned down a little. But definitely not on the home page.

Remember, with a search engine you have an advantage with ads in the first place. If you can display relevant ads alongside the search results, you will get clicks as the ad may be exactly what they were looking for. Like google, for example. Clean homepage, but so many people click on those sponsored links because they are so relevant (and many do not know the difference)

Good luck with your project!

hey c0mrade,

Many thanks for your feedback. This annoying banner at the front page was just for testing purposes. It should be removed shortly.

Any more comments?

Move the disclaimer, You do not need it on show on the main page, Mabye make a button or text link for it, And have them divert to a new page to read it :P

I think you should use different colours in your header - they are close to the default colours for links and many people, myself included, despise them with a passion.

I also agree with penguin about the disclaimer.

What is with your favicon? It looks like it has nothing to do with the website itself.

Maybe you should have some rollover effects for your links; I always prefer them on a website.

Your html does not validate. You have not specified a doctype. Your CSS also does not validate.

You should re-do your web page title to make it better SEO-wise. I suggest "Free file search on Rapidshare, 3fileupload, Youtube, and more" instead of "Free file search on Rapidshare and other free file hosting sites".

Hi,

Thanks for the critique. Since the site has not been fully developed yet, your feedback is very much appreciated.

We've taken into account some of the comments you've pointed out. We will continue developing our project and will keep you up-to-date with new features.

Should you have more comments on Search4file.com, say them loudly and proudly :)

thanks.

Your site good but you need to do more efforts for good results. As i had typed MCAFEE word to test but i wouldn't get any result on the name of MCAFEE.

Thanks, hope it will help you.

It would be nice to add ability to specify file extension. You know, like google's one: "filetype:pdf" etc.
I tried to search for the keyword ".pdf eclipse" (books about eclipse) and get links to the video in results :)

Also why don't you put ads at the your site? Small adsense block will not kill you :)
And do not forget to signup as Rapidshare affiliate and put affiliate link to them too. It's always nice to get some money from your site even if it's just your hobby :)

I agree with the first response, the ads that I saw were links to hot sexy chicas, and that isn't something professional to see on a search engine homepage. Very good idea, although a few searches resulted in very little indexed info. I am guessing this is still in the early stages of development. When you get this going, i think it is quite a neat approach at searching. By the way, liked the logo too.

Hello guys.

In regards with advertisement, we're trying to minimize as much as possible. We might remove ads in the near future so that it would not bother our visitors that much.

File extension tool is underway and it should be launched any day. Just need to improve and make it work perfectly with the system.

Thanks guys for your ideas.

Awesome site... I have used other file searching sites before, but none have the usability and simplicity as yours...which is key. But like someone else said...I would choose different colors, the red and blue are good but not great. I would go for something less plain but keep it simple. I haven't ever book-marked a site under this "review" section(and I have made plenty of reviews), but I'm definitely bookmarking this one. Good job.
