Hello all.... Been awhile since ive been here. My last review went like 40 pages or som it was unreal. Some may remember it, some may not. I appreciated all the reviews back then.

Now its 2006 and a new look has emerged. From looks, to navigation, to a better experience for shoppers.

And again I ask you for your opinions on it. Straight from the hip, good or bad, i respect all of your opinions and welcome any suggestions you may have.

Thank you

http://girlfriendslingerie.com

ADDED 3/4/06 : new site at http://ymproducts.com

We just opened up a new website. It contains most of the pieces of lingerie from the other site, yet will expand on this to include jewelry and other products

Would love to hear what yall think of the new site. As of now its rather of a simple design. Im trying to give this one a clean even easier look, with what i hope are refreshing and appealing colors.

If you have time let me know what ya think. i value all your opinions here.

Thanks again

Dan

well what can i say? nice pictures

if you ask me you should try aligning it to the left and if you want to pretty it up a tad more i say make the top welcome image a bit more in width and put a color other than white around it/in it to blend it because just looking at it it looks like an ad that would be at the top of the page and make it so that the tables are 100% so it fits to screen though still make it so its viewable for lower resolutions and the with the top picture do a stretch image or repeat/tile image like light pink/purple shadows of assorted lingeries though it really is fine as it is its just the top pic kind of screams out to me for that one reason

other than that its nice not to bright not too dark though it maybe looks a little dull for a lingerie page but its not too bad i couldnt really suggest a better color

its a nice clean business page, seems to get the information out

Thanks for the reviews all. I took your suggestion and have been messing arounf with banners to make it same width as page. Ive made a ton of them, all varying around the color scheme I have at present. Some fancy, some just plain solid color...

I out one up now, its a fancier one as far as design goes, yet im unsure if i like it or not.

What ya think...Keeper, or kill it....?

Thanks all

If it was me I would work towards making the homepage "shorter". You have a lot of information below the fold on this site.

I personally would like to see drop menus with major headings (club wear, LINGERIE, Sexy wear etc) rather than the extensive list that you have running down the side of the homepage now.

I would also group the images together on the homepage - Actually I dont know if I would have that many on the homepage at all. I like to thjink of my homepages as a welcome mat, just let the visitor know what you do and make them want to seek more information.

I would also use more user friendly images, I know your pictures reflect the product but I think careful selection is need to portray the right image to your customers. My first reaction to the pics on the site was pornography. And I think you will find that with a lot of visitors.

Having said that, i do like the colour scheme that you have. The links do have a good contrast and it is easy on the eye.

The top banner is centered for me and the content is on the left side.

Very boxy design, but I like the colour scheme for what it is for.

Your site looks good but i've got a few remarks though.

1. when viewing your site at a higher resolution (width higher than 1200px) i noticed your header with navigation your top image slides to the right while the bottom image sticks nicely to the menu on the left.

2. clean up your code. htmltidy reveals 2 errors and 275 warnings on the dancewear - clubwear page, on a productpage i saw 10 errors

3. the watermark image you see on your product pages: i can clearly see the edges, i would feather the edges in photoshop or a program alike.

errors 1&2 are really coding errors
error 3 is just a little mockup

Thank you all for the reviews. i so appreciate it...

As for the background watermark image, i did touch that up to remove the edges. Thnak you for mentioning that. Hopefully it looks better now.

As for the errors in the code. Regrettably those cant be fixed for they are being generated dynamically thru Miva shopping cart system and various plug in modules.

The Modules are a extension from Miva to give me more options. Like thumbnails from left to right versus out of the box up and down. Stuff like that.

And thru these integrated modules, they do appear to play havoc with the code a bit.

Doesnt appear to be anything I can do to clean them up, unless I took all of the pages and made them static...yet this would be understandably a huge pain to do then plug them all into the cart itself.

Again thank you all so much for the reviews....

Bless

For the other site:

Same draw, but i was hung on your flash intro.

It is not as tight as it could be.

Reduce the timeline by half, you are dealing with ADD people, who have been playing first person shooters since the early nineties.

Speed things up, make the flicker, explode the header and then bring it back.

Take your high quality model shots (300 dpi or better), slices then so they seem to float in the banner. Flicker them too.

For example look at my flash sites.

http://www.allatus.com

and

http://www.oxygenbardallas.com

See the flickering stuff? that's what i am taking about.

Your website has nice flow. The navigation is simple and so is the template but they look good. Those chicks are very hot and attractive too and will intise visitors to stay at your site. (Atleast me)

I'd spend more time customizing Miva. Out of the box Miva is hard on the eyes and has no personality.

On http://girlfriendslingerie.com
--Reduce the vert space between the category links (I wouldn't completely remove it, but half it)
--integrate the mailing list into the nav - use nice art as the header, not just a darker blue bg color
--in the right nav, buffer the testimonial, italicise the quote and indent the name/location
--

On http://ymproducts.com
--make the header flash write a cookie to the browser so it doesn't replay every single time any page in the whole store is loaded it kills me and everyone else omg it is so hard to wait for it to reload every page every time...hehe :)
--add 1px black border around the product/model images
--replace the images in the Flash w/ ones like you've got for the background -- ie. where the model is cut out of the background.

I stopped...sorry.

Like I said, out of the box Miva is so hard on the eyes...spend cash and hire a developer to tweak things. There are a huge number of small tweaks that can take these sites from dime-a-dozen to one-in-a-million.

Here's one that's pretty good: http://www.seemetees.com/listProducts.asp?idCategory=4
and the product detail page:
http://www.seemetees.com/ProductDetail.asp?idProduct=19

You'll also notice the header Flash DOES reload each time, but that's because it's got the rotating logo and it makes sense to reload each time. It's not replaying an intro.

If you have a high-res display at your disposal, maximise your browser window and view the site at 1600x1200. There are some wonky things going on where all your content is not centred. Like on the homepage, your content is centred, but your navbar is over to the left. On the product pages, your header and footer seem to be centred okay, but your content is over to the left.

Your "Free shipping" sign at the bottom of the pages is very aliased. Try using less compression when saving the jpg.

Ah, I see. About the content being centred, it looks like on some pages, the content is fully centred, but on others, it's centred between the left margin and the model in the lower right corner of every page. This gives the impression that it's over to the left a little, though not all the way up against the left margin.

Gita

Thank you for your reply.... Bt any chance, is the browser your using firefox. i do know that some odd things happen with firefox, such as the tables shifting. You can actually refresh the page and firefox will redraw it each time....

And what site were you reviewing? there are 2.

http://girlfriendslingerie.com and http://ymproducts.com

Girlfriendslingerie seems to be the oddest with firefox as GFL is altered the most via plugins and such

Thanks again for the heads up

I haven't read through the other reviews since I'm rushed for time, but your thumbnail images are in dire need of rescue at the ymproducts site

Your html is improperly sizing the images, either by accident or by design...it doesn't matter...it needs to be fixed.

You can fix either by using a graphics program to physically resize the necessary images, or correct the html code...it looks simply amateurish as it stands.

The site at girlfriendslingerie.com is far superior in design and execution.

Hello,

Your site doesnt look bad. I like the menu on the top ,the simple design and the colors. But it is a bit slow to load. I dont reall like the pics they look as if they were scanned from an old catalog if you can improve that would look better. Keep working.

Hello all....

Did some new stuff on both sites.

i wasnt exactly sure on what the the issue was on the thumbnails on http://ymproducts.com if you could eelaborate that would be very helpful.

As for the speed issue, i changed just hosts..as the other one was dragging me down big time.

The big issue here is, if you have a miva store, get a host that not only suppots miva, yet are at the same time profesionals at it.

Anyways, as always if you have any opinions, please let me know.

the sites again are

http://www.girlfriendslingerie.com and http://www.ymproducts.com

thanks

Dan

EDIT. Ready 911 please elaborate on the pics, what site are you referring too? And if its just a few pics, which ones are you looking at?

Here is a screen shot of the left sidebar.
Image

Now here is that same image when HTML is NOT used to resize it.
Image

IMHO, using code to resize any image is a really, really bad idea...especially if it gets resized into unrealistic proportions.

For those who recal a comparison from the past would be great and appreciated..

and for the new views, any comments, suggestions..good or bad is welcome.

And on the end for seo purposes, how does ut look...seems im doing ok in most engines, yet google hates me..as it has in its cache only old links that have been defunct for many month now.... i just cant figure that out..

anyways the site is http://www.girlfriendslingerie.com

Can a mod please merge this with the original thread?

Also you have TWO sites in the original thread - you must post unique domains in different threads, just gets messy otherwise

You might want to find out the reasons why your index page is generating 104 errors

A lot of your display issues are likely as a result of you not validating your code.

No, w3.org is now showing 123 errors.
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=www.girlfriendslingerie.com

You STILL haven't even addressed the issue of not even having a document type declaration....and thats a no brainer of an error.

Many of the errors are to do with the cart system code....you can't change that, but more than a few are simple code errors that should have been fixed the last time it was brought to your attention....and then again when you attempted to make other changes to your site.
