This is a local NGO site I did on volunteer basis. Much TIme was not put into it but I'd be glad for some comments to make it better in the areas I probably missed.

I like the slogan~~~ "Connecting needs with resources". Was that your idea?
The Gallery link seems o.o.o. :)

Scalable site good work!

Though it's a nice slogan, I find that the text gets lost with the busy background.

The info that you currently have under the About tab should be incorporated into a short intro paragraph to be used on your index page. Even though your slogan/title gets the message across about the subject of your site, it's important to still incorporate an intro paragraph, kind of like a welcoming banner for first time visitors.

Make sure you do a throughout spelling check, I've come across a couple of mispelled words and some sentence fragments. Not a lot but few.

Few broken links, mostly in the bottom footer. In regards to your footer, I think things should be shifted around, right now you've got a good bottom navbar but the copyright info is next to the navbar and it's confusing at first glance. Move it to a new line with a hard return so it's not confused to be a part of the navbar.

Good news section, I think it could be improved though. Mostly just making it easier to read the stories. Make the date stand out more maybe on a new line or in a different colour, because right now you have it incorporated into the title and it gets lost. Add some colour to seperate the stories a bit better as well.

In the pop up windows for comments/read more, active the links.

Nothing shows up on the weather page?

Gallery link is broken

The submit a story area, looks too much like a lot of the other areas. Make every area look a bit differentso users don't get them mixed up. Instead of having users submit stories through an email directly through outlook, set up a submit form for them to fill out on-line. This will not limit the submissions to just those who use outlook. Just like the great form you're using on the contact us page.

Good use of keywords & description

Remove your inline CSS and JVS and instead link to them externally. It will help your site load faster and make your code cleaner.

Don't forget your alt tags on images

Spelling mistake in your code "http://www.guyanacitizensinitiative.org//donate.php"

Newsletter link broken

Are all those spacer images really necessary?

Two comments, you have a pesky javascript error showing up in I.E. Its one of those things that I absolutely cant stand on any site, that constant yellow caution symbol wherever you go. So do your best to figure it out.

The last thing, you're 7 errors away from perfect w3c code, a couple of which you just have to put type="text/javascript" into your <script> tags. That double <html><body> code is also included in those errors. Dont settle for anything less than perfection, even for a volunteer project! :wink: Great job as always man.

Thanks I know...that's why i posted here for your so much appreciated comments. I love ozzu for this.

In respose to 613flavah
Wow... quite a comment.
First thing...I didn't do the header...they consider that the the logo, yes the whole thing...the logo.

Anyways I'm very interested in what you say about he last part about the codes repeating itself... What page was that?

I'm not seeing it.

Someone mentioned a javascript error...where?
I'm not getting it.
All the broken links will be fixed as well as spelling. I waiting on info for those pages.

I have a submit form for visitors but I placed it on the contact page. Maybe i should place it on that page for sure. I'm gonna work on those things you pointed out.

Thanks alot guys.

Here's a screenshot of the javascript error, its showing up right on the index page.

Image

As for the code repeating itself, look at the source code on your index, within your <body> tag you start a new <head><body>, you didnt even close you're first <body> tag. I think you just have it messed up in your includes.

The general code outline after the first <body> tag on the index page is:

Code: [ Select ]
<body>
<script language="JavaScript1.2">mmLoadMenus();</script>
<table width="701" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="Table_01">
.......
</table>
<div align="center"><style type="text/css">
<!--
.style2 {font-size: 10px; color: #073451; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}
a:link {
    color: #073451;
}
a:visited {
    color: #073451;
}
a:hover {
    color: #073451;
}
a:active {
    color: #073451;

-->
</style>

ok...took some of the advice...if you check back
One question:
why is this a error:

<td colspan="3" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><div align="center">

according to validator the bordercolor part is an error. Why? I always get that.

lol. its at the bottom left of the screenshot. BUUUUUUUUUUT!!!! fixing up your code seems to have fixed whatever the heck it was, it doesnt show up anymore! I think its just because you had a </head> out of nowhere. Who knows. Everything looks good now.

...btw as for bordercolor, I dont believe thats a <td> attribute, there's only bgcolor for <td>'s. i've personally never used/heard of bordercolor.

the double quote you have isnt a normal double quote, its a special character. you can see the difference in the example below. just replace it with a ', thats what it should be anyway. should compile perfectly after that.

<td colspan="8" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <span class="style5">Guyana Citizens” <----

<td colspan="8" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <span class="style5">Guyana Citizens" <----

do you mean like having comments? you can just put that within /* */, like normal comments in any other programming language. i've used it and its had no effect on the css output. so if you want to include a link, just do it within those comments. hopefully thats what you meant.

if the link is within comments, it wont output. i havent tried just putting a link out there on its own in a css file, not sure what output results you would get there! give it a shot if you're up for some experimenting.

Pretty sure bordercolor is either proprietary attribute, or depreciated or both. esides, CSS provides a much better way to define colour

Hi soulseek3r,

I'm graphic designer so maybe i can give u advice in this part of your website.

Nice and clean layout but i think u work with too many colors. Maybe u can try work only with brown, yellow and pick only one of the other colors (red, blue and green).

Also i think that the header text is lightly nerveless. Try some other color or some other effect on this font. Or do somethig with backround images...more opacity or try only one color background.

Well for one,
I didn't do the header, the NGO consider that their whole logo and they wanted it in.

Second...
These ppl like those colors. Think i like working with em...no. They are the colors of the flag and to most of these "old folks" if the site don't have the colors it's not nice.

So in terms of graphics....I have no choice. Thanks tho...you advice is bascically what i notmally do.

First impression is a good feel and look about the site.

Don't have much more to add than the posts above.

The first time I loaded the page, it took a while for all pics to load. Why does it seem like there are so many pics?

Yes, the banner/logo is a bit busy and in the process you loose a great slogan. (The text disappears in the busy picture.)

And then off course the dead links. Make sure there's something, rather than nothing at all, i.e. getting the explorer error.

Good luck with the page!
