Please give me input on my new discussion forum for healthy lifestyle seekers.

Do you have any suggestions on how to add more members and spread the word?

Is the layout easy to follow and navigate?

Thanks!

hello,

i tested the forum

- the forum is kind of standard; nice look and nice functionality.
- i noticed in the Lifting Weights (anaerobic exercise) a post which was either spam or sponsored advertising. Either way, these should not be allowed.
- you should have better advertisement; find better sponsors such as big brands and put them more visibly.
- create the buzz about your forum; create a number of fake users who develop conversations; post in other forums which do not directly compete with yours, but complete; say biking, etc...

So.. you have a forum.

At the first look, I like it, but then I took some time and see some details than I would change if I own the website.

1) In your header, that text "~Make your world a healthier place with the help of our healthy lifestyle support forum.~" placed on yellow.. brake your header look. It's just do not fit in there.

2). I would make the left menu background grey, as the main content background.

In general , the website is well done, fast loading, I like it. I give it 8 / 10 stars.

What about an area for people to view before and after pictures?

I think the background and the fruit icons in the header clash.

I'd try moving the FAQ and Search icons in the navbar up to the top-right corner and try sticking that 468x15 Adsense Link unit in their place just to see what would happen.
then again, that might not fit in anything under 1200px or so wide. :scratchhead: (and apparently there's more buttons there now that I've registered anyway)

There definately doesn't appear to be any wasted space.

Here's a screenshot of what I see. (1440x900 resolution)
Attachments:

As you can see in the top-right corner of that screenshot the initial load including images/css/scripts/etc is about 185KB and it downloaded relatively quickly for me. Subsequent loads are roughly 40KB in the forum listings, 90KB in a topic with 9 replies. Still fast.

No favicon ?

There's a healthy selection of topics.

Registration is simple.
The CAPTCHA doesn't take me 4+ tries like the ones Yahoo has, thank goodness.
The activation email didn't get caught by my gmail accounts spam filter, which is nice.

I don't know about leaving that "delete post" button available to members. I don't think I've ever seen a forum that leaves that be which hasn't had a lot of conversations suddenly make little to no sense because one or more people get mad or have their accounts taken over by an ex-[girl|boy]-friend with an itchy delete finger.

When editing my profile, I think the "height" and "weight" fields need some examples of valid values in the description.
I used 6'2" for height and it told me what I entered was too long. Using 74 in went through though.

Maybe center the icons in the post icon legend ? (nitpicking, sorry)

Ok I'm out of stuff. :D

Thanks for all of the new feedback!

I've thought about putting a before and after picture section, but I think I will wait for that until more members sign up.

Joebert, thanks for all of your comments. I'm going to put them all into consideration! Thanks! And thanks for becomming a member! :)

Nice updates. :D

The first thing that came to mind, was having a chalkboard eraser background with that "~healthy lifestyle support forum~" as a label on the side of the eraser. And let it float against the right side like the current label does.
//edit -- chalk works too. :)
