SITE REVIEW: How To Make A Website

Post July 20th, 2007, 12:27 am

Hey nice site, newbies will sure find it helpful.

2 suggestions:

1. Add some pictures (in addition to the screenshots) to make it more interesting.

2. Make it look slightly more professional, such as by not having the index be a tutorial, but rather an index, and you could also format the wording to look more "paragraph style."

But those are just two very minor details. It's great!

I feel like a bad guy saying this, but I don't like it. It's an excellent idea, but the site is very dated. And it looks very dated. And you used tables. I think this would be a better idea of if you were using some modern technology for the code, navigation and so forth. And the template you used looks like one of the ones that comes with Dreamweaver 8. Not trying to offend you. But I keep seeing sites similar to this and I have to ask myself how much are you really helping people if the sites they are building are going to be behind the times? The entire site is a little too busy for me. Someone said that it was too Web 2.0ish. Which I think was totally off base. The site really doesn't capture any of the Web 2.0 characteristics. I think anyone new to web design and code should check these out:
http://www.sitepoint.com/article/html-c ... ners-guide
http://www.htmldog.com/guides/cssbeginner/
http://www.davesite.com/webstation/css/
http://www.subcide.com/tutorials/csslayout/
http://webdesignfromscratch.com/
http://alistapart.com/
http://cssglobe.com/

These are just a few very useful sites that address design style, code and offer some new cutting edge techniques that the masters are using. But broken down into plain English. And if you look at the sites, they are clean and well organized. I think your site could use some work and more planning. And I think it also could use something to set it apart from all the other sites similar to it. Good luck.

I like the overall Design. I myself am new at web design and have very little training. I find a lot of your tips and tutorials useful. The only thing is I like many people would visit your site more if it had more free stuff I think you should also look into adding free flash content and animation programs.

Thanx michael,

That's a good idea your quote "if it had more free stuff I think you should also look into adding free flash content and animation programs"
