SITE REVIEW: LayoutsPack.com

Post June 20th, 2008, 4:15 am

Hi there,

I'd like to hear your opinion and suggestions about LayoutsPack.com. I have just launched it. How do you find its structure and color combination? :)

Hey one thing caught my eye and it has nothing to do with structure or color. You mistyped the dollar amounts. You gotta get a period (.) in there instead of a comma (,) or people might think you have some of the most expensive templates ever lol :)

I think the colors are cool. Nice range but not too far at the same time. I definitely see a "theme" going on. Only problem, I think another template site uses the same color scheme...You do want to set your own identity as much as possible.

Also I would suggest some type of rollover on the navigation.

Good start.

Thanks a lot. It looks okay on smaller screens.
And it is neither joomla nor wordpress cms.

Not really a fan of the green/orange color scheme, you might want to tweak the values of the colors a little more (but that is just my opinion, I just personally don't like those two colors in general lol).

Also, the top navigation really has to have a hover effect, just setting it to a dark grey would work. Also, a little work on the logo.

Some code issues are

1. no title tag
2. no meta
3. your top menu should be in a list. Then style it using float and background images. The engines love unordered lists for navigation.
4. your CSS would be more organized using an external style sheet. You can also rip out alot of unnecessary styles such as the font sizes by placing everything in one, organized CSS.

Nice work on not using tables, we as developers need to really stop using them as much as possible.

All in all it is still a nice site, just a couple little tweaks here and there I think.

I personally really like the mixed color scheme, and I think it looks really original and lively, I'd keep it like it is. My site didn't have tables for a while, and we couldn't pull it off, but you did. Great looking site!

Thanks very much, guys for your replies. I feel flattered. As for suggestions I will consider them.

It looks excellent, really it does. I like your image-enlarging javascript, very smooth :D

one problem - I'm viewing in IE6 and the nav bar is a little messed up - it has black squares covering the start and the end of it. I don't know how much you care about viewers who are still stuck on IE6 (a dwindling population, i realise!) but you might want to try and clean it up for them.........

otherwise great job!

Thanks a lot. Our coder seems to be using IE 6 and having no problems.
What screen resolution do you have?

It's not the resolution (mine is 1024x768), i've just looked it again and it looks fine when the window is maximised. The error appears as soon as you reduce the window size - even if it still almost covers the full screen...

good site, I would add a little flash to atract the customer and I would prolly make the fonts a tad smaller.

I'm runing 2000 res and its still big, so its gotta be huge in 1024

mmh not that huge... looks alright and fits nicely as long as the screen is maximised.... just starts doing weird little things when you try to reduce the window size :D
